New song: Mace of Molag Bal

To take my mind off everything else going on right now, last night I started and finished a new track, called Mace of Molag Bal, for good measure. It started as an attempt to simulate a modular syth rack in software, and ended with saxophones. Have a listen, it’s free after all.

Fun fact: this is the fifth song I have made that starts with an M. If the player gives you trouble, here’s a direct link.

How about a free song for christmas?

Huzzah! My track Singsiri, which has been in the works for some time – and some of you might have heard an early version of already – is finally finished and ready to hit you guys right in the face.

You are all very welcome to download it for totally free right here, and if you are a music nerd like me, you can find it at Soundcloud, too.
Free stuff is awesome. Awesome stuff is awesome. Merry christmas guys.

I keep a separate mailing list for the music stuff I do, to avoid giving you stuff you don’t want. So if you liked the song and want more, sign up for the newsletter right away (If you download the song and enter your email, I’ll do it for you)!

And if you are now asking yourself  “What, music? Weren’t you a designer guy?”  Then the answer is yes and yes. I do this too. When I make music I simply use my last name, so if you see a Jacob in front, it’s a design thing. Confusing? Not at all. Don’t believe me? I have a website for it and everything. Now go listen to some music already.

Freebie: Musical theme for your mobile

astronaut girl!Did you just upgrade to iOS5 on your iPhone/iPad/whatever? Yeah, me too. One small feature they added without anyone noticing, it the ability to use your own ringtones for various alerts, not just the main ringtone when someone calls. So, naturally, I went completely overboard and made you a musical theme, a whole suite of sounds way better than the boring default ones.

The theme is called “Humans”, as it’s basically made from robots telling you what is going on with your phone. So instead of trying to remember that the “bzzoing” sound means “new tweet”, your phone will just tell you; “new tweet”, in a robot voice.

And if you’re thinking about getting a new phone with the fancy new virtual intelligence Siri, this is the perfect robot companion.

The main ringtone is a bit more fancy of course, a Nintendo inspired composition to psyche you out while you scramble between the sofa cushions for your phone.

“Iko iko”

iko iko

I just finished up an edit slash remix I did of “Iko iko“, an old folk tune usually sung during Mardi Gras, later made into a pop song, and thus covered by artists throughout the 20th century. My version is based on the 90’s version by the Belle stars(used in the soundtrack for Rain man), I took out an awful saxophone from it, put in some modern synths and played around with the arrangement, making it more DJ-friendly. Have a listen to those drums!

It’s a free download, so get’em while you can.
