The painter of goldfish

When you’re such a sucker for chinese melancholia and awesome animation as me, it’s hard to just walk past something like this. Awesome!

Moebius + Myazaki + Nemo

This was a bit of a bombshell for me. I just learned that my favourite artist of all time, Moebius (R.I.P) was approached to make some concept designs for an animated feature film based on one of my all-time favourite childrens books, Nemo in slumberland, back in 1985.

Oh, and my number three guy, Hayao Miyazaki, was heavily involved in production early on, even making a test film, but left citing difficulties years before Moebius came on board.

Wow.

Illustrator Mattias Adolfsson

I’ve been wanting to do a feature on Mattias Adolfsson for a little while now. The man currently holds a place in my top three illustrators, and have been for some time.

He is a fellow scandinavian, based in Sweden, and has a history working in the gaming industry and 3D, before “going analog” as he puts it, in 2007. A wise choice, at least from his fans’ perspective.
Growing up, I was a huge fan of the Serafin books, authored  by Philippe Fix. Mattias seems to bring the quirkiness from those books to a whole new level.

Be sure to check him out on Behance if you’re on there yourself, and have a look at his blog. For the devout, there’s even a book you can get, with his drawings.

Wrinkles.

Yeah, I’ve got some time to kill.

New and old housing

treehouse

The video of the guy in Oregon having built an “Ewok village”, basically a bunch of tree-houses, have been making the rounds on all sorts of blogs now. But have a look at the project behind this video, and you find FairCompanies, a website hub about simple living, sustainability and other, broader concepts. It’s a treasure drove of cool videos about new ways of thinking about living, and well worth the watch.

I’m getting to be the age where there’s a lot of glands making me wanna build stuff. A two-by-four now gives me the feeling I used to get from action figures and racing cars, plus tree-houses never stop being fun, right?

As a firm believer in responsible and sustainable design, I’m also very intrigued by these houses being made from pre-fabs and retired shipping containers. My first thought was that the insulation has to be a huge issue, but containers made for refrigeration and freezing are extremely well insulated, making them a great starting point for.. many things. Insert your own post-apocalypse joke here.
