Thessia – now free to the world

thessia

Finally the fruits of my labour recently, namely this site, are ready to be shared. I have made the theme i made for this place freely available to you all, if you wish to adopt the same look. Read on for some techno babble about building web sites! (more…)

pic unrelated

I did two drawings today that turned out kinda funny, so i chucked’em in the portfolio. Completely unrelated styles, but it’s more fun that way. Click to enlarge.

Patterns

the first pattern. Click to biggify.

I’ve been getting into patterns a lot lately; the different ways to make them completely tilable, and the creative aspects of course.
The first one i did was a rip-off from an old broken pattern i found somewhere, which i thought looked so nice i drew the whole thing back up from scratch, with new colors.
At the time i was simultaniously working on a poster for UPOP, but i had not come up with any decent ideas yet. Then i figured, i should try putting their logo in there, see how it looked. And it was nice! So the first pattern became the poster, and at the party the poster was for, I put the pattern up on three projectors, to tile seamlessly across the entire venue. No decent photos of that, though.

New drawings

These two weeks at school was a bit of a relief from the usual staring-at-a-monitor-days, with a live drawing class. The images shown are watered-down china ink on paper, painted with a stick. Drawing neck bones for eight hours straight is a bit of neck strainer (no pun), so I ignored the model every now and then to practice some calligraphy, which the drawing stick was practically made for!

Today was a good day

Today started super with toast and tomatoes, quickly followed by live drawing at school, with coffee on the side. Nice. But then i checked my internets, and it turned out Ian Stewart, the creator of the Thematic framework, mentioned me on Twitter. A-W-E-S-O-M-E! Having such an internet authority mention me feels like i could put a badge on my site, saying “Internet approved”. And it isn’t even lunch yet. I plan on being crowned king of Jupiter around dinnertime.

Oh, and the game is coming around, it’s gonna be awesome too. Think I’ll post some of the products of this weeks drawing classes later. Jacob out

Making a 80’s game-visual-thing

ultra magenta frames

While poking around finding strange software and being inspired by things such as The Mighty Boosh, i figured i wanted to make a game. Let me rephrase that; an audio-visual experience-thing.
Acctually, lets just call it a game for now.

penguin_side_gif

Long story short, i wanted to see how i can package some awesome visual things, cool sounds, awesome music and of course myself as the protagonist, into a game setting.
This thing I’m creating is a really old school experience, the gaming experience will be much like old game titles such as Police Quest and Raiders of the lost ark.I’m using AGS to build the game, Photoshop and lots more for visuals and god knows what and everyhing else for sound. Just got my new 6 000,- sound interface the other day, let’s try and squeeze something outta that one.

I’ll come back when i have something more to show, for now some animation shots of me walking sideways with no pants. A-W-E-S-O-M-E-.

How to: DYI Dub Siren

sodler

I have been teaching myself some soldering over the last year, to make and augment some musical instruments, and some other, more strange projects. My biggest project by far was this; building a dub siren from scratch. Here I have documented my process and made a guide for anyone who dares to follow in my footsteps.

This dub siren is far from the most simple design. If you want an easy way out, you can find an old birthday card that plays a song or one of those “Mr T in your pocket” gizmos, and just poke’em with a soldering iron and you’re done(like this one). When I started out this project I had no soldering skills at all, but I had some time on my hands and thus I managed to teach myself the basics in a couple of weeks. It was my Christmas holiday, okay? You make it sound like I was unemployed or something.See the full rubdown after the jump.

New looks!

syngende_elefant
Hooray! The brand new version of my site is now up and running!
I spent a lot of the summer building this thing. It might not like look a spaceship on top, but trust me, under the hood this thing is an intergalactic juggernaut. The whole header section is designed as a blank canvas, that funky elephant (made for an event in 2008) is just the starting point. More after the jump! (more…)

new site coming soon

Sorry about leaving you hangin for some time now without any posts, I am currently developing a whole new look and feel for this place, which will hopefully roll out soon. be sure to check back in a little while, and everything will be much prettier.

If you have a hardy stomach, you can see how it’s coming along as i build it over at jacoblysgaard.com/wptest. But please, don’t take it seriously just yet. Most of the graphics are placeholders anyways.
