Boogie down Bombay

Just (semi-)finished this drawing. Don’t know exactly what to do with it yet, i think I’ll use it for my upcoming dj concepts.

the form is nicked from an old photo, so I can’t take credit for putting a boom box in the hands of some chick in a hijab. It’s mostly a study in linework and shading techniques, as well as getting comfortable with digital drawing (this is all drawn on a Wacom tablet).

I drew it in pretty hi-res, so i suppose I could introduce some more colours, and screen print it. Would that be cool? Any ideas?

Vinyls and lasers equals awesome

I’ve done some work with the laser cutter at school, and man, is that thing awesome! I can’t post everything at once, due to some… Christmas present issues, but this I can show; the REWIND! medallions. These will be distributed among the select few Djs who have grazed our club with their presence over the years.

laser rewind

A lot of you are probably familiar with REWIND!, but for those who are not, it has been the label that myself among others have placed on a lot of our DJ shows over the last years. I am, however, announcing that I’m putting this concept on ice for now, I’ll be starting a brand new concept come january, with some fresh blood in the mix. So these can be considered our retirement gold watch. You’ll get the whole story on the new concept later, though.

The medallions have been cut from my crates full of rubbish music from the 70’s. These ones were actually cut from a Julio Englesias record (Libra, if you must know). Its kinda cool the way the material makes you look twice, I think.
Sorry for posting so little pictures, but when all presents are opened and all surprises are out, I can give you the whole thing.

Film scans

I got some more old rolls back from the labs, this time loads of cross processed 35mm LCA. And let me stress this: These come straight from my scanner, no photoshopping or other post production of any kind.
Some of these are from my time at KiB (Bergen school of arts), like this one:

sliten

The story behind this one is that we were given a task to create a merging of the natural and the synthetic, so we made a bear out of moss and branches. You might see it, striding over the big rock:

Others are just pretty ‘cus the missus is in them:

Here’s the lowdown:

If anyone is into Ffffound and dropular and stuff, stop by and say hi! Here’s a spotify playlist for you too, even though some of these tracks are pretty embarrassing I guess. Happy sundays guys!

A magazine in the making (updated)

marg

Our editorial design project at school has finally taken us into the realm of the digital.
We have been hard at work designing a magazine for the last few weeks, and now it’s time for the webmag/blogazine version. This is by far my favourite part of the project, as I dabble in these things on a daily basis.

Greenscreening experiment

Saturday was the day for a new experiment at Nabovarsel. . What i did was, i filmed the djs playing with a webcam, greenscreening them on top of a video edit i made (that’s the space stuff in the video). Then i split up the video feed, and sent it to some old CRT monitors placed around the club. And voila! DJs in space! In the future i hope to repeat the endevour, but with a lot more screens, I’ll try to get my hands on some old TVs and stuff to really draw some power. I made a little video of the event to illustrate:
EDIT:I repeated the experiment, but bigger and badder, at Landmark this saturday. Landmark just got themselves this friggin huge LED projector, and it’s a dream using it. Here is the video of that too:

Stöv promotion

I just found this portfolio piece I did about two years ago, dunno why it hadn’t been posted before. Anyways, here it is. It’s a collaboration with my girlfriend, the brilliant and beautiful photographer Ane Yrja Holter. It’s a band called Stöv, (which I incidentally play in), and it was shot in one of the huge back rooms of Tou scene, a venue i Stavanger we were playing.

Found some pics of the process, too (click to biggify):

New Visuals for Nabovarsel

Just finished another Visual for the local it-crowd, aka Nabovarsel. Some pretty simple stuff really, not trying to invent anything new in this one. Both of the Nabovarsel visuals so far has had a bit similar technical concept, as they are made in Adobe after effects, with folding  cutouts as the main premise. So the next one will probably be quite different. Plus, I had just a few hours to finish this, so the product is far from polished. The typography is rediculous, for instance. Oh well.

If you don’t really understand what the vid is of, it’s a Norwegian tradition having advent calenders, inside every date there is a piece of chocolate or similar, to keep you going ’till christmas as a kid. Or adult, in my case.

I have some lofty plans for the live visuals at the main event, as I’m gonna link up a bunch of old CRT monitors to show the same visual at different places in the venue. I’ll probably show some pics if it goes well. In the meantime, you can follow me on the T-bird, too.

Action update

Just wanted ‘yall to know, I’ll be hard at work in the silk screening workshop for two weeks with the guys, trying to re-invent the craft. Expect some incredulously awesome prints to come forth when we finish.

EDIT: All done! Here are one of the prints i was kinda happy about. The technique is partly regular silk screening, part werd silk screening. Par example, I used masking tape directly on wet emolution and ripped it off to make some kind of rocky texture.

This print is available for purchase in the new store, if you would like one. Only 16 prints made, and this is a three color print, making it a bit more fancy than usual.

Visuals for Nabovarsel

Emilio from Nabovarsel (which is pretty much the club in town) approached me about making something to look at while dancing this saturday. I like to think he came to me just because I’m awesome, not because we go way back. Anyways, i drank from the sweet nectar of Adobe After effects for about three hours, and this is what i pooped out in the end.
The idea for the folding box came to me in my sleep last night, so Emilio’s timing was impeccable. I’m also going to hang up my DIY keytar-thing in the club, although it is not finished and not playable, is still looks like a bucket of nice.

Lots of Holga love

film_120_3-3Just got some wonderful rolls back from the lab!

It’s been a while since i was the most active lomographer in the country, but i still cling to all my old cameras. Digital photography is convenient, but seriously, if you want all the warmth and.. i dunno, goodness, of photography, film is the only way to go.

Unfortunately, when everyone else in the world have gone digital, developing film is a bit harder. Plus, i mostly shoot on cross processed 120-film, which is kinda like showing up at a party as the dj with.. cassettes or something. You get the idea.

When i finally found a shop that would take my funky films (after 1 phone call, 2 emails and a trip to every single photo shop in town), it turns out my film is being sent to Stavanger, developed by hand (the machines won’t take it), and presto. Maybe my best accidental photography work as of yet. Most certainly not the most technically proficient work, but by far the most fun to shoot. Take  a look!

PS. for any locals reading, the wonderful photography shop is the tiny one right down from Pepper. I reckon he makes his living changing batteries in wristwatches these days.
