The interview with myself together with Kasper & Emilio (in Norwegian, I’m afraid) is in today’s newspaper! We were talking about our new Fanzine, journalism and clubbing in general.
If you would like to read it, you can see it a lot bigger at flickr.

The Nabovarsel Magazine/Zine can now be purchased from my web store.
For any new listeners, you can read all about the magazine in my earlier blog post.
We are still waiting for the physical memory sticks that they will be sold on later, but for now you can just as easily (and at a better price) get the fully digital version if you like. All the text is in Norwegian, but there’s lots of nice pictures too.
Happy days! Feels great to be kinda almost finished-ish!

The Nabovarsel magazine we are making has been getting a bit of attention in the press lately, and I’m only too happy to share…
For the new listeners: The nabovarsel magazine is a digital “zine”, which yours truly have been responsible for designing. We are in the process of releasing it to the public right now, and everybody is really excited.
The first interview we had was with Studvest, You can read it in its entirety right here:
Til Bladhyllene!
Then we had a nice chat with Natt&Dag’s Håvard Nyhus, read it here:
Edith PDF: Nabovarsel lanserer fanzine
Then Birgitte Mandelid from FAN Fanzine had a talk, and since they don’t work on the internets, you can read my pretty scan of the pages instead:
More interviews coming up as they appear in the wild!

Today is the day the first edition of the Nabovarsel magazine is released!
We have been working on this thing for about five months now. The bulk of the magazine is made up of some brilliant articles and photos, cooked up by the most brilliant young minds in Bergen, nothing less. Headlining is the biggest, baddest city guide to Berlin you have ever seen, covering ten years of club culture.
We also have gotten rather huge amount of DJs from the whole country to chip in and name their top 10 tracks between 2000 and 2009. Some safe cuts, some suprising ones, lots of great music. Just over fifty pages, it’s a pretty solid piece of work, if I may say so.
If you are unaware of the existence of Nabovarsel, it is a music and culture collective based in Bergen, hosting parties and various other events, managing several artists and bands, and we even have a podcast, featuring mainly mixtapes from Norway’s best DJs. Branching out, we figured it would be great fun to make a magazine, too.
My role in this project has been in the design department of course, being head designer on the whole rag. Keep reading for some design jibberjabber!

I have to do something better than just playing in the pool when I’m on vacation, so I went and looked for some interesting buildings and signs, which is not hard at all. These are all from Cotignac, a small village right between Nice and Marseilles. The French makes some beautiful signs, but when even the local municipality uses Comic sans (oh, the typography horror), I start to wonder. But since they use it on the garbage bins, maybe it’s really a political message, like “thrash comic sans”?

As some of you might have read between lines and on twitter lately, I’m about to open up a little web boutique for my prints.
I’ve been getting a lot better at screen printing this last year, with a pretty large pile of good ones under my belt now. They got popular quite fast, selling mostly to friends of friends and other people in the know. And since feedback has been so good on the prints, I am now opening this little shop to spread the word. We aren’t open for business just yet, since at the time of writing I’m in France and unable to ship any orders.
But as soon as I get back home the virtual doors will open fully and I can put acid-free paper into cardboard tubes before you can say sunscreen.
For the sake of transparency, you can have a look at the store at its current state, although you won’t be able to purchase anything just yet. If you are interested in any of the prints, just check back in a couple weeks. And if you just like them, tell your friends!
I am going to release an all new, even bigger print simultaneously with opening the store, at a pretty steep discount as an opening offer. So be sure to check that out while the offer lasts!
Rest assured that I spend every waking minute here in France (that I’m not in the pool) sketching away at new stuff to make. And I’ll remember to bring a proper camera to the workshop next time, it’s a lot of fun to watch all these machines go at it. Allé á la Piscine! (or something like that)

The poster for Nabovarsel’s event in july is now finished! It was pretty special for me, a personal best in silk screening. Sixty prints in three hours with two colours and not a single misprint! There are of course some small alterations between prints, but that’s just the way it’s supposed to be.
The prints will be seen in select places around town in the coming weeks, and will also be available for purchase at my upcoming web store (how’s that for a suprise), and at a pretty extreme discount at the event.
Here are some shots of the process, including my own ugly mug:

The last course at school before summer was an illustration class, that later evolved into an animation class, taking the illustrations further. I feel like my illustrations fell 1% short of perfection, so I’m glad that the animation went a bit further. Click through to the article to see the animation!
Here are the first boards from the illustration part by the way:

One of my biggest projects over the last year-and-a-half has finally reached its 1.0 milestone, meaning that the first version of it has been finished, tested and has performed well in a real setting.
I’m speaking of course, of what has been called the BeatLite. This is, in really short words, a musical performance enhancer. Read on.
