Exhibition: Between coasts

CityPoster02

I just finished the design for Between Coasts, an exhibition that opens in Trygve Lie gallery on Manhattan march 21st. It will be a travelling exhibition, and move between galleries across the continental US for two years, before heading to Norway for a tour here.

The exhibition is centered around the stories of various people that moved from western Norway to the US in the last 50 years. On the project, I worked with project coordinator Åshild Thorsen and space designer Hanne Steien, with myself on the graphic design.
Most of the work consisted of a poster, invitations and a pamphlet, as well as the over-arching identity system and logotype. It was a thrill to work with an exhibition again, and with such a lovely team!

Upgraded webstore

Store showcase

Our store has finally gotten a big workaround, to something with much bigger photos and prettier… everything. Go have a look! This time around the products actually warrants your attention, and the layout is a joy to surf around in. At the time of writing there’s still a few tee’s left, along with all the other goodies.

Do you have any wishes for stuff we should carry? What would you love to see in there? Scream and shout it in the comments!

New Nabovarsel podcast

NaboCast Cover Great news! (although some of you may have heard already): We are waking up our podcast over at Nabovarsel, which has been in hibernation for some time. These new episodes are hosted by myself (speaking in Norwegian), and consists mainly of the most awesome people we could find, that have all taken the time to mix some of their favorite music for us. The most recent episode is by Kjetil Møster, making a pretty awesome mix of groovy jazz from distant planets, to stuff so weird it’s bordering on NSFW. Click the big’ol button below to get the podcast up in iTunes, details and listening at Nabovarsel.info.

On a personal note, I’m enjoying this return to radio talk greatly. Ever since I stopped making my weekly FM radio show at SRIB, I’ve missed sitting and chatting on a mic. Now this podcast will be a whole lot more focused than the hour-long rants on soul music and the coke habits of dead musicians from the radio, trust me. As we say in the business, stay tuned.

New client: Young Dreams

Young Dreams

I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be lending my design chops to Young Dreams going forward, making them even prettier than they already are. If you are new to the band, here’s a recent article.

Young Dreams is not only a damn good band, they’re people I’m honored to call my friends. Let’s make awesome stuff together!

Find me on Instagram

Like any other sane person I think Instagram & Vine are all sorts of fun. If you are on there yourself, let’s follow each other already!

Client relations: When they want to change something

As a designer, making your clients happy is paramount. But a client relationship is still a relationship, and things might get sticky. These are some thoughts on how to avoid potential stickiness.

So you’ve been toiling over this project night and day, and finally sent the first finished version off to your client. And the response is that yes–they like it a lot… BUT. How about handwriting instead of a strict typeface? My dog likes it better in blue. How much is reasonable, and how do you respond?

Nivea anti-wrinkles itself

I just wanted to share and write a few words on the new iteration of the Nivea brand, done by San Fransisco-based Fuseproject. It builds from the brand’s original product from 1925, the iconic blue Nivea Créme tin. I don’t know about you, but that blue tin was a staple in our bathroom throughout my childhood.

In a world where more and more brands try to look like detergent, Nivea have dared to unify and boil down their packaging to this.  And for that, they should be applauded. The lids of the packaging is a really nice touch, letting the top be angled towards the end user on the shelf. Now let’s have a look.
